Metagirl & the Earth Passengers Announces New Single “I Don’t Care,” Produced by Grammy-Winner Andros Rodriguez

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brooklyn indie rock collective releases punk anthem for our times on April 17, 2026

BROOKLYN, NY — The Brooklyn-based indie rock collective Metagirl & the Earth Passengers, led by Erica Rowell, announces the release of their new single "I Don't Care" on April 17, 2026. The track is the first release from their upcoming four-song EP Trying to Chalk the Sun and was produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by multiplatinum Grammy-winner Andros Rodriguez, whose credits include Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Florence + the Machine, Shakira, and Whitney Houston.

"I Don't Care" is an urgent, ironic battle cry against complacency, inaction, and engineered hopelessness — part ode to rebellion, part pushback against the weaponization of words. Anchored by driving rhythms, layered guitars and hook-driven melodies, the song blends punk rock energy with sharp lyrical wit. Think the Buzzcocks meet Liz Phair — with some Veruca Salt, Kay Hanley and Kim Deal thrown in.

The song's origin is as compelling as its message. "'I Don't Care' came about when I had reached my limit — a friend who actually does care offhandedly remarked that he doesn't, and the remark set me in motion," says Erica Rowell. "I immediately sat down to write about not caring. As the song developed, I mixed and matched things we should care about with things we probably shouldn't. It was a way of addressing the dangers of these times not so much on the ground but through art, language, and music."

The result is a track that feels both timely and timeless — a song that understands the weight of the moment without being crushed by it.

Metagirl & the Earth Passengers has been making noise in New York City since 2016, performing at some of the city's most respected independent venues including The Bitter End, Pete's Candy Store, Pianos, and Shrine. The collective's hook-driven songs tackle life, love, art and the occasional brush with quantum physics, earning comparisons to some of indie rock's most distinctive voices.

Trying to Chalk the Sun marks the band's most fully realized work to date and signals an exciting new chapter for a project that has spent nearly a decade finding its voice — and clearly found it.

"I Don't Care" is available April 17, 2026 on all streaming platforms.
