Metagirl & the Earth Passengers is a Brooklyn-based rock collective led by Erica Rowell, a songwriter whose hook-driven songs have been shaping the New York City music scene since 2016. Equal parts melodic urgency and lyrical substance, the band's sound layers driving rhythms and interlocking guitars beneath songs that tackle life, love, art, and the occasional brush with quantum physics. Think Buzzcocks meet The Specials— with touches of REM and Kim Deal tossed in.
Described as "energized" and "personality-filled" by Obscure Sound, with Phonograph Me calling out their "cool attitude," Metagirl’s songs blend blues, jazz, funk, punk, and ska into melodies topped with “fiery,” layered guitars and vocals praised as "strong, expressive and versatile."
Foxfire Magazine wrote about their latest single "I Don't Care": "There is movement in every part of it, both emotionally and thematically. It makes us feel things that make us want to move instead of staying still." By turns liberating and urgent, Metagirl’s songs have something to say about life, love, art, and occasionally even quantum physics.
A fixture on the New York live circuit, Metagirl & the Earth Passengers has performed at some of the city's most respected independent venues, including The Bitter End, Pete's Candy Store, Pianos, and Shrine, building a reputation for high-energy sets that leave little room for indifference or a spot on the dance floor..
Now entering a new chapter, Metagirl & the Earth Passengers is set to release in 2026 Trying to Chalk the Sun, its latest EP which was produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by multi-platinum, Grammy-winner Andros Rodriguez. The collection is led by its first single, "I Don't Care," which arrived April 17th — a sharply focused and topical statement about these disturbing, dangerous times from a project that has spent nearly a decade finding its voice and clearly found it.
